1. File the rivet head to make it flat and center punch the flat surface for drilling.

2. Use a drill bit one size smaller than the rivet shank to drill out the rivet head. 3. Drill the rivet to the depth of its head, while holding the drill at a 90° angle. Do not drill too deeply, as the rivet shank will then turn with the drill and tear the surrounding metal. NOTE: The rivet head often breaks away and climbs the drill, which is a signal to withdraw the drill. 5. If the rivet head does not come loose of its own accord, insert a drift punch into the hole and twist slightly to either side until the head comes off. 6. Drive the remaining rivet shank out with a drift punch slightly smaller than the shank diameter.
Three types of Maintenance processes called "Hard Time", "Condition Monitoring", and "On-condition "

Condition Monitoring - Condition monitoring(CM) techniques are used to repair or replace components depending on their analysed condition rather than on a fixed schedule that the manufacturer recommends to prevent failure.
The condition of the components is determined by the statistical process control techniques, or through the use of the human senses (Visual, hearing and feel) or other means to determine of their continued airworthiness without disassembly inspection or overhaul.
Example: A well established Aircraft Oil Analysis will tell the nature and quantity of wear of components in the engines. The debris(material, size, shape and concentration) found in oil are the indications of the condition of various components which are in contact with the lubricant. for example, larger and higher concentration of metal particles found in oil during filter debris analysis, indicate that the components are severely worn out .
Hard time A hard time component/s is time limited that requires a specific action at a specific interval as per the aircraft or component manufacturers requirement irrespective of the condition of the component.
The component replacement can be based on flight hours, calendar period, and cycles.
Example: Airliner landing gear struts, turbine engines parts, Life rafts, vests, and several safety and battery-related items are classified as 'hard time'.
All hard time components are specified in the approved aircraft or engine maintenance manual.
On Condition It is a preventive maintenance process, in which a component/s subject to on-condition monitoring must be checked either continuously or at specified regular intervals for continuous airworthiness.

The determination can be made by visual inspection, measurements, tests or other means without disassembly inspection or overhaul.
If there is none, or any deterioration is within the criteria specified in the manuals then the component is kept in service until the next inspection and removed from service when it reaches the removal criteria .
